Department of Medical Laboratory Technology
Faculty of Basic Sciences

Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) plays a crucial role in healthcare by performing complex diagnostic tests that aid physicians in detecting, diagnosing, and treating diseases. MLT professionals are trained in diverse areas, including hematology, clinical biochemistry, microbiology, histopathology, molecular diagnostics, and emerging technologies.
The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the global need for skilled laboratory technologists and well-equipped diagnostic laboratories to combat infectious diseases effectively. Recognizing this necessity, Dr. Ayesha Mushtaq, under the guidance of WLP-II, HESSA, and mentors from the University of Alabama, strategically designed the MLT program. The curriculum, developed in collaboration with Dr. Irum Javed, received formal approval from the Board of Studies, Faculty Board, and Academic Council of SBKWU.
This skill-based program not only enhances employability but also fosters entrepreneurship among women in Balochistan. Graduates can work in diagnostic laboratories or establish their own, contributing to healthcare advancements.
