The Media and Journalism Department was established in March 2013 with a regular two-year M.A. Program under the supervision of Ms. Gul Farzana. The department starts just with 9 students while currently, the number of enrolled students in the department is around 100. However, several batches of students have been passed out to date and are serving in renowned public and government media organizations. The Department first time introduced the BS (4 Year) Media and Journalism program in 2015. The program has been formulated under the policies and standards given by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
Mission
The mission of the Media and Journalism department in a democratic society is to inform, enlighten, and champion freedoms of speech and press. so that Instead of producing just students for the market our main and basic mission is to produce creative, knowledgeable, skilled media professionals: critical thinkers, and responsible citizens for society.
Vision: to be a pioneering academic department recognized for fostering innovation, excellence, and diversity in media and journalism education, research, and practice.
Objective/Goals
  • Review and update existing curriculum to ensure relevance and alignment with industry trends and best practices.
  • Increase opportunities for experiential learning through internships, industry collaborations, and hands-on projects.
  • Establish research centers or institutes focused on key areas such as media ethics, media literacy, and emerging media technologies.
  • Encourage collaboration between faculty and industry partners to address real-world challenges and opportunities in media and journalism.
  • Invest in state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure to support teaching, research and creative endeavors in media and journalism.
  • Offer training and professional development opportunities for faculty and students to stay updated on the latest digital tools and platforms used in media production and distribution.
  • To prepare students with strong academic knowledge and professional skills so they are prepared to become media professionals.
  • To provide students with critical engagement with the latest theory and research on media, culture, and communication.
  • To produce graduates to be leaders of society with a sense of high morality, and insightful attitudes so that they would contribute to the development of society.
