The department of English was established in 2004. The Department initiated its academic activities offering Masters classes with five faculty members and twenty-four students. The English Department of SBK Women’s university functions in coordination with the stated vision and mission of the institution that encompasses a goal to provide accessible and high quality education to women of Baluchistan and beyond. The target and aim of the Department emphasizes as its key center to foster an inclusive and dynamic academic environment that empower students with the knowledge, skills and critical thinking, the abilities that are necessary for thriving in the globalized world. Since 2004, the department of English aims to convey knowledge of literary history, literary forms, literary theory, and a wide variety of texts and an extensive array of vocabularies and practices used to consider them. It strives to give students an understanding to appreciate the literature. The department puts effort to provide students with sophisticated writing and critical thinking skills useful not only in the academy but also in the world at large. It offers opportunities to explore identity, values, manners, and morals.

The department is guided by the beacon of its vision and mission statements that are in alignment to the SBK Women’s University’s goals and mission.

Vision

Our vision is to develop the English department as a center for academic excellence through teaching and research that encourages and nurtures literary sensibilities, language competency, and critical thinking. We stand to foster a love for literature and linguistics so that the women of Balochistan may conduct productive research works and develop their skills in English Studies.

Mission
The mission of our Department is to offer advanced, career-oriented postgraduate and research programs imparting professional knowledge employability and life skills, as well as inculcating women empowerment and their mental growth along with a strong value system. The Department will attempt to provide learning and research opportunities in the following areas: Interdisciplinary Studies, New literatures in English, Technology in Language Teaching, Modern and Postmodern Literatures, Cultural Studies, Human Rights, Philosophy, Translation Studies, Sociolinguistics, Global literature and Film Studies. The Department employs innovative and technology oriented pedagogies, interdisciplinary approaches, field work, and project based learning toward building a strong foundation of linguistic and literary sensibilities.
Objectives

Core Values of Department of Commerce Convey knowledge of literary history, literary forms, literary theory, and a wide variety of texts over linguistics, and a wide selection of vocabularies and practices used to consider them.
Give students an understanding of an appreciation for the English language and literature. Provide students with refined writing and critical thinking skills useful not only in the academy but also in the world at large.
Offers opportunities to explore identity and value system and to promote cultural & ideological space.
